BC Children’s Hospital has announced a new program, Too Hot for Tots, featuring a DVD and brochure to educate parents about the most common causes of childhood burns. More than 90% of burn injuries in children are considered preventable when safeguarding measures are taken.
The Too Hot for Tots video features Dr Cindy Verchere, director of BC Children’s Burn Unit. Dr Verchere points out that parents may not realize just how much more susceptible to burns a child’s skin is than that of an adult. To highlight the importance of burn prevention and safety in the home, the video features stories told firsthand by parents whose children suffered burns and were treated at BC Children’s Burn Unit.
The Too Hot for Tots DVD and brochure are being distributed to health units around the province.
