Dr Burnett is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Adult Reconstructive Surgery of the Hip and Knee, Vancouver Island Health–South Island.


David B. Chapman, MBChB

Dr Chapman joined the BCMJ Editorial Board in 2008. He is a full-service general practitioner in Langley, and a clinical instructor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Dr Chapman has privileges in general practice and obstetrics at Langley Memorial Hospital, and sits on the board of directors of the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation.


Anne I. Clarke, MD

Dr Clarke practises emergency medicine at Peace Arch Hospital and has an administrative role as a medical director for the Fraser Health Authority. She enjoys the myriad outdoor activities available in British Columbia.


Brian Day, MB

After training in general practice and working as a family physician in Eastern Canada, Dr Greenstone did a residency in pediatrics and started consultation pediatrics in Surrey in 1977. He returned to family medicine in 2002.


Susan E. Haigh, MD

Dr Haigh has been in private practice in endocrinology and metabolism on the North Shore since 1986 and is on active staff at Lions Gate Hospital. Dr Haigh also provides consult services in Squamish.


Manal Hasan, MBBS, MD

Dr Hasan is a rheumatology fellow in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of British Columbia, sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia.


J. Hawkeswood, MD

Dr Hawkeswood is a fifth-year resident in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of British Columbia.


Sterling Haynes, MD

Sterling Haynes is an octogenarian writer of humorous short stories and zany poems. He was a country and urban doctor for almost 40 years in BC and Alabama. When he was 70 he had a stroke and, as he puts it, “my brain was rearranged. I developed a wonky right foot, and started writing funny stories and poems. I traded a paralyzed right foot for a developing, storytelling right brain.

A. Daniel Malebranche, MSc, MD

Outside of medicine Daniel Malebranche enjoys travel photography, the study of languages, and mastering the art of Swiss cheese fondue. He is passionate about clinical research and aspires to a career in interventional cardiology.

P. Terry Phang, MD

Dr. Phang is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of British Columbia. His medical training was received at the University of Toronto.

He received surgical training at Memorial University of Newfoundland and specialized colorectal surgery training at the University of Minnesota in 1996-97.


David R. Richardson, MD

Dr David Richardson joined the BCMJ Editorial Board in 2006, and became editor of the Journal in August 2008. Dr Richardson has been a general practitioner in Langley since 1992 and is on active staff at Langley Hospital. His extracurricular activities include soccer, mountain biking, and competing as a triathlete.

Cynthia Verchere, MD

Dr Verchere practises pediatric plastic surgery at BC Children’s Hospital, and is a clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia. In addition to her affiliation with BC Children’s, Dr Verchere is a member of the consultative staff at Vancouver General Hospital (UBC).


Willem R. Vroom, MD

Dr Vroom practised in Surrey as a GP for 29 years, and later as an emergency physician. From 2006 to 2015, Dr Vroom was the senior deputy registrar at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, with oversight for the accreditation and Physician Practice Enhancement programs. He currently works as a consultant in regulatory and medical administrative and governance matters.
