Issue: BCMJ, Vol. 52, No. 1, January, February 2010, page(s) 38 News

The BC government will implement the harmonized sales tax on 1 July 2010. In response, the BCMA commissioned an independent report from PricewaterhouseCoopers to determine the potential impact on BC physicians. That report has estimated the impact of the HST to be $13.9 million, or 0.65% of MSP fee-for-service payments, averaging $1578 per physician.

The BCMA has submitted a copy of this report to the minister of health and minister of finance, and will be seeking offsets for the HST. A copy of the report is available for members on the member home page of the BCMA web site at www.bcma.org.
