I took great interest in president Dr Brian Brodie’s comments on the “Top 10 ways for physicians to protect themselves, their office staff, and patients from the flu” [BCMJ 2009;51:334] Most of the points are well designed and useful. However, I fail to see how item 5, “Know the temporary fees and bill them accordingly” should fit into the topic under discussion. I am sure Dr Brodie had quoted it there for good reasons, yet it still creates the impression that properly billed fees may be of significant preventive effect on the spread of influenza.
