Wear pink
Blog Author: David R. Richardson, MD

On 23 February an elderly patient of mine asked why I was wearing a pink T-shirt. I told her it that it was in support of anti-bullying day at which she nodded. However, later during her visit she stated, “I don’t get it. What have you got against ‘bowling’?”
I heartily support the wear pink movement. I think all of us or our friends have been bullied at one time or another. These times were painful and remain unpleasant memories. The negative consequences of bullying cannot be underestimated. In fact, many of us as adults suffer bullying in subtle and not so subtle ways.
An environment where bullying is no longer accepted is a better place for all of us. Starting at the grass root level in schools is a good beginning.
Hopefully this movement will grow, and I encourage all of you to support it. Not only is this good for the health of our patients but also for us and our families.
Therefore, next year, please wear pink in support of this movement--but be prepared to explain why you don’t like wearing communal shoes and putting your fingers in dirty bowling balls.
