UBC med student blog contest
Blog Author: Tara Lyon
BCMJ staff regularly attend the annual orientation day for UBC first-year medical students, with the goal of raising awareness about the journal and what we do, and encouraging medical students to contribute to our publication.
Last year the BCMJ launched a new website incorporating many updated features, including a blog. A departure from our print content, BCMJ blog content is topical, current news-related, and conversational in tone. Blog submissions are written by BCMJ Editorial Board members, staff, and qualified experts we approach for comment on specific topics.
This year, we are giving medical students a unique opportunity to contribute to the journal by holding a blog-writing contest. All submitted blog posts from UBC medical students will be considered for publication during the contest time period (15 September - 25 October), and the best--as selected by our Editorial Board--will win $250.
Blog entries should be 200 to 400 words. Students can bring their unique voice to any number of topics like current health care media stories, tuition, or CARMS, or give readers a glimpse into life in med school.
Contest questions and submissions can be sent to journal@bcma.bc.ca.
